The Underwoods in Scotland

FÁILTE!

It’s rare that I get to share my own personal photos here, so I’m over the moon to be sharing just a lil collection of moments from my honeymoon! My wife Holly and I spent two glorious weeks soaking up as much of Scotland as we could, and it was just the best.

We began our trip in Inverness and were immediately taken by the Cairngorms, the sheep dotting the hillsides, and the charming architecture in the countryside. As a lifelong Loch Ness monster supporter, I was also able to check a boat ride around Loch Ness off of my bucket list!

From here, we made our way down to Edinburgh, stopping at Dunnottar Castle along the way. We were lucky enough to snag a shoot with the talented Stephanie Dreams Photography, who captured some of our favorite memories of this breathtaking place! She’s a cool-as-hell queer-centered photographer and you should definitely check out her work.

In Edinburgh, we enjoyed some delicious food (shoutouts to The Edinburgh Larder, Tipo, World’s End Pub, and Mary’s Milk Bar) and explored the city on foot. Being in a medieval city is such a mind-bending experience and we were just enamored with all of the architecture. I was also able to fulfill my dream of creating my own handbag at Islander UK!

We left Edinburgh behind for the western Highlands and made our next stop in Oban, a small seaside village. This was the perfect base for us to take scenic drives through the mountains of Glencoe, and to experience our first Scottish fish n’ chips (a delight)! Our Airbnb in Soroba offered a hilltop view of the entire village that we could enjoy from the comfort of the hot tub, too - so dreamy.

After a hike through the woods to discover a medieval fairy bridge, we made our way north to the Isle of Skye. The scenery here is truly unmatched - I don’t think I’ll ever find adequate words or photos that can convey the magnitude of it. From breathtaking + surreal landscapes, to stopping for sheep + cows to cross the road, to the misty ambiance, every second spent on this island was unreal. One of our absolutel favorite evenings (possibly of our entire lives) was spent dining at The Three Chimneys, where we savored local ingredients and creative dishes that we will likely never forget. We were also able to take a boat ride out to the Ascrib Islands to witness a colony of puffins! When I look back on our trip decades from now, I think Skye will be the star.

On our last day, we visited a working croft where we were able to walk out to the fields + meet their Highland cows! They’re the most adorable creatures you’ve ever seen, and their gentle grazing made for the best ASMR. With a final bowl of cullen skink, we said goodbye to Scotland.

This trip was truly one of the sweetest experiences of my life. Nothing quite compares to visiting one of the most beautiful places on the planet with your favorite person in the world. So lucky to live this life + so happy to share it with all of you.
